This is challenging enough when it comes to making physical experiences like portraits, flowers, and landscapes visible.
To make the spiritual experience visible is even more challenging and perhaps the ultimate challenge for an artist.

Victor Majzner’s limited edition book "Painting the Torah" is an interpretation of the Torah from a purely Jewish perspective.

This is a historic and artistic first!
Being one of Australia’s leading artists, Australian imagery is reflected throughout these paintings as a reference and homage to the Continent where he lives.

From the Maggidim of Yesteryear - Volume 1: Bereishis
Product Dimensions: 12 x 9.2 x 0.3 inches ***NEW DECEMBER 2008 SKU: FMY1H
The maggid has always held a special place in the heart of Klal Yisrael. A master of words and stories, he traveled from city to town to village, a modern-day prophet who showed us our strengths and weaknesses, who made us laugh at ourselves while teaching us vital life lessons.
In From the Maggidim of Yesteryear some of the best-known and most beloved maggidim of the past generations share their inspiration and wisdom. Following the order of the weekly Torah portion, here are stories and insights from the greatest of these itinerant teachers: the Maggid of Kelm, one of the most influential maggidim of Eastern Europe; Rav Shalom Schwadron, whose words galvanized all who heard him; the "Jerusalem Maggid," Rav Ben Zion Yadler; and the venerable Rav Yaakov Galinsky, shlita. These giants of the spirit offer us parables that bring our own life choices into sharp focus. They tell stories of great men and humble ones, each with a lesson that we can take into our daily lives.
When reading From the Maggidim of Yesteryear we are transported to another world, the wonderful world of the maggid. Its words evoke the crowded beis medrash, the thundering voice, the compassionate whisper, the hand banging on the shtender to drive home a point.
With our lives today growing ever more complex, it is in the stories of the maggidim - true stories and parables, tales of the shtetl and of today's urban jungles - that we can find clarity and the simplicity of absolute truth.
The voices of the maggidim are as clear today as they were in generations past. We will enrich our lives as we listen to them, immortalized in the pages of this important new book.
Authors: Rabbi Benzion Yadler, Rabbi Sholom Schwadron, Rabbi Shabsi Yudelevitz, Rabbi Yaakov Galinsky

God According to God
Author: Gerald Schroeder Published June 2009 Format: Hardcover | 256 pages SKU: 978006171015
In this groundbreaking exploration, a biblical scholar and M.I.T.-trained physicist combines decades of research to change the debate between religion and science, presenting a new paradigm of how to understand God.
Gerald Schroeder has spent his career revealing the hand of God in the intricate discoveries of physics. Now, for the first time, he turns his attention to this force, examining both the Bible and the physical world to discover the true nature of God—God according to God.
Schroeder argues that we have ignored those traits of God we find unappealing, replacing them with our personal desire for the all-knowing, all-loving, never-changing deity that so many worship today. This leads to the age-old problem: How can there be such a God when the world is filled with tragedy? Yet Schroeder reveals that this troubling juxtaposition is really smoke and mirrors. The God revealed in the Bible is 100 percent compatible with the world as we know it today. It is our misconception of God that causes the disparity. In fact, the concept of God that atheists rail against and that believers defend is inaccurate.
In God According to God, Schroeder presents a compelling case for the true God, a dynamic God who is still learning how to relate to creation. The key to God's action in the world, according to Schroeder, can be found in a well-known verse in Exodus that is typically translated "I am that which I am." Schroeder's correction that it should be translated "I will be that which I will be" reveals a God that changes to fit the ever-changing world.
This opens our eyes to other characteristics of God that we have long overlooked despite their being present in some of the most popular stories in the Bible—a God who regrets (the flood of Noah), a God who wants us to argue with Him (Jacob wrestling with God in the desert), and thus a God who changes His mind (Moses convinces God to spare the Israelite people), and a God who allowed nature, and the creation itself, from the very start, to rebel (Adam's and Eve's betrayal in Eden).
With riveting chapters on the origins of life, a scientist's view of creation, and the unique place of our planet in the galaxy, God According to God offers a radical paradigm shift that will forever change how we understand God.

by Rabbi Yitzchak Meir Goodman ***NEW DECEMBER 2008 Format: 5 Volume Slipcased, Hardcover, 2000 Pages
In these five volumes, R. Yitzchak Meir Goodman has drawn from well over 100 volumes of Rabbinic thought, many of them out of print titles found only in his personal library. The main criterion for inclusion in his work was: is this a beautiful thought that readers will enjoy as much as I do?

Rabbi Yitzchak Meir Goodman attended Yeshiva and Mesivta Torah Vodaas, then studied at Yeshiva University. He received Smichah from Rav Soloveitchik, and a doctorate in Jewish education from YU's Ferkauf Graduate School. Jewcentricity
Author: Adam Garfinkle Format: Hardcover | 320 pages SKU:978047019856
A wise and wide–ranging explanation of never–ending exaggeration–by both philo–Semites and anti–Semites–about the Jews
Hamas blames the financial crisis on Jews. Mel Gibson blamed all the wars on Jews. Jews win a disproportionate number of Nobel prizes. Dishy Danish citizen Scarlett Johansson is Jewish, Madonna is into Jewish mysticism, and some claim that Abe Lincoln was Jewish. Who cares? Nearly everyone, it seems. If it′s about Jews, it′s news. Adam Garfinkle looks deeply into the world′s obsession with Jews, positive as well as negative, to find answers about where it comes from and where it might be going. He identifies four categories of exaggeration about Jews: positive bias by Jews and non–Jews, and negative bias by Jews and non–Jews.
Combining insights from history, sociology, religion, and international politics, he explains how a misunderstanding of strategies that have kept the Jewish Diaspora going for millennia have led to distortions about Jewish influence, intelligence, and success–and to charges of chauvinism, financial manipulation, and conspiratorial lever–pulling.
Adam Garfinkle (Washington, DC) is the founding editor of the American Interest, a bimonthly magazine on politics and public affairs. Formerly a speechwriter for both Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice, Garfinkle has taught international relations at Johns Hopkins University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Tel Aviv University.

Jewish Pirates of the Carribean
by Edward Kritzler Hardcover, 336 pages SKU: 978038551398
At the end of the fifteenth century, the Spanish Inquisition forced many Jews to flee the country. The most adventurous among them took to the high seas as freewheeling outlaws. In ships bearing names such as the Prophet Samuel, Queen Esther, and Shield of Abraham, they attacked and plundered the Spanish fleet while forming alliances with other European powers to ensure the safety of Jews living in hiding.
JEWISH PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN is the entertaining saga of a hidden chapter in Jewish history and of the cruelty, terror, and greed that flourished during the Age of Discovery. Readers will meet such daring figures as “the Great Jewish Pirate” Sinan, Barbarossa’s second-in-command; the pirate rabbi Samuel Palache, who founded Holland's Jewish community; Abraham Cohen Henriques, an arms dealer who used his cunning and economic muscle to find safe havens for other Jews; and his pirate brother Moses, who is credited with the capture of the Spanish silver fleet in 1628--the largest heist in pirate history.
Filled with high-sea adventures—including encounters with Captain Morgan and other legendary pirates—and detailed portraits of cities stacked high with plunder, such as Port Royal, Jamaica, JEWISH PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN captures a gritty and glorious era of history from an unusual and eye-opening perspective.

Sebastian Dominguez finally gains his release, only to discover that his mother has been accused of witchcraft in France and is in danger of being burned at the stake. Sebastian rides like the wind to come to her assistance, but on a lonely stretch of road in the Black Forest in southeastern Germany, he is attacked from ambush. The Holy Tongue & How it changed the course of history
by Benjamin Gross, PhD ***NEW DECEMBER 2008 Format: Harcover, 328 Pages SKU: 978193444001
What is special about the Hebrew language?
Should it, by its very essence, be considered a holy tongue or a language of holiness that enhances the demands of ethics?
The philosopher, Benjamin Gross, reveals how the adventure of language in Jewish thought leads us to the heart of those tensions that animate Jewish history: it expresses its innermost matters.
This magnificently structured and carefully annotated study of the Holy Tongue and the Covenant of Speech is both a revelation of the march of Jewish history and a history of the language of Revelation. It explores the initial experience of the use of speech in the biblical world and the philosophic effort made by Jewish thought across the centuries to elucidate the themes involved in this specific experience.
The Hebrew language takes us back to the dramas of Jewish existence as well as evoking the hope for the future of human destiny.
Benjamin Gross was born in France and, since 1969, lives in Jerusalem with his wife Miryam and their five children. Professor of General and Jewish Philosophy at Bar-Ilan University, he served as head of the Department of Philosophy and dean of the Faculty of Humanities.
Professor Gross has written extensively about the Maharal of Prague, the Messianic Idea, Repentance and Redemption, and many Essays on Jewish spirituality.

The Lion Cub Of Prague
by Moshe David Kuhr, MD ***NEW DECEMBER 2008 Format: Harcover, 240 Pages SKU: 978193444012
Thought, Kabbala, Hashkafa from Gur Arye The Maharal of Prague --Genesis--
Rabbi Yehudah Loewe [1512-1607], known as Maharal of Prague, is credited with the creation of the Golem, but more importantly, served as the rabbinic leader to European Judaism during the 16th century.
Much of his voluminous work has not been translated and therefore is not accessible to the English reading public.
The Maharal's supra-commentary on Rashi, the major commentator on the Torah, is integrated into the text and care is taken, despite stylistic modifications, to limit the text to thoughts of the Maharal.
Gur Arye is full of surprises, brimming with unique thoughts and diversions into rarely discussed Torah ideas. Kabbala is seamlessly woven into his text, and his work delves into such issues as What was God Thinking at the Moment of Creation, The Genesis of Evil, The Secret of Burial, The Navel of the Earth, and Man at the Catalyst of Harmony in the Universe.
Moshe David Kuhr was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, and attended the Talmudical Academy in Baltimore. He received his medical degree from the University of Chicago and trained in pediatrics at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Dr. Kuhr has lived and practiced pediatrics in Monsey, NY, for the last thirty years. He holds a pediatric teaching appointment at Columbia.
Dr. Kuhr and his wife Phyllis have four sons and six grandchildren. He counts among his Torah mentors Rabbis Boruch Milikovsky, z"l, Moshe David Tendler, Berel Wein, Avraham Pessin, z"l, Yehoshua David Hartman and scores of chavrutot [study partners] and students who have helped sharpen his skills, preparing him to make accessible the works of the Maharal of Prague.

The Stories our Parents found too painful to tell
Authour: Rafael Rajzner Edited by Dr Henry Lew
The book was written about Polish Jews in Bialystok.
It is Rafalel Rajzner's personal memoir of the Bialystock Ghetto translated from Yiddish by 22 translators.
This “Australian Book,” previously published only in Melbourne in Yiddish in 1948, is Australia’s first Holocaust memoir.
It has lain dormant for 60 years, and has never before had an English printing.
In English it has sold out its printings numerous times, as its subject matter is of great interest to many readers worldwide, non-Jews as well as Jews.
How it came to be translated into English, an amazing human interest story in itself, is told in the first 30 pages of the book.
Rafael Rajzner, whose personal testament this story is, was one of the counterfeiters, as in the recent academy award winning movie “The Counterfeiters,” and his book is the earliest written account of that story.
The ABC TV series Compass dedicated a program to it, “The Sleeping Book", which was aired nationally on ABC1-Channel 2. The program has seen been rescreened.
The ABC Radio National program “First Person” serialised the book on the radio in 5 quarter-hour episodes.
There is even some talk that the “Compass” program may now be offered to Jewish Film Festivals at home and abroad.
The book has already been acquired by Holocaust Museum libraries in Jerusalem, Berlin, Washington, Sydney and Melbourne, the Kean University Library in New Jersey and the Yivo Library in New York.

Triumph Over Tyranny
by Philip Spiegel Format: Harcover, 545 Pages SKU: 978193444013
Triumph Over Tyranny is the most complete account to date of the remarkable stories of courageous people to change the policies of a totalitarian regime. It is a panorama of the history of the international Soviet Jewry movement and the fight for human rights in the former Soviet Union.
This is the first book in English to reveal some of the clandestine activities of the Chabad movement to keep Judaism alive in the Soviet Union during the regimes of Stalin and Khrushchev. It discloses the dramatic story of the Israeli government's secret missions to contact and aid Soviet Jews in their quest to emigrate from an oppressive regime and live as Jews in Israel. Quoting from newly translated KGB documents, the book shows how leaders in the Kremlin rationalized their brutal and repressive actions.
Motivated by their realization that European Jews had been abandoned to suffer the horrors of the Holocaust, the activists in the U.S.S.R. and abroad were determined to give meaning to the slogan "Never Again!" They waged successful campaigns to save their brethren, the Jews of the Soviet Union who courageously refused to be victims.
Philip Spiegel and his wife, Carolyn Kommel Spiegel, traveled to the Soviet Union in 1985 and 1987 as participants in the Moscow Marathon. They also visited and befriended refuseniks in Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. From 1985 to 1995 the Spiegels served on the Board of Directors of the Bay Area Council for Soviet Jews. During this time the author was chairman of the Social Action Committee of Congregation Kol Emeth in Palo Alto.
In 2000, Philip wrote and published Remembering Ottynia, a 64-page book about his parents' hometown in Ukraine. The book was accepted by Yad Vashem as a Yizkor (memorial) book.
Since 2002, he has researched the history of the international Soviet Jewry movement and interviewed over 200 activists, political leaders, former refuseniks and prisoners of conscience. Voice Of The Dove
Author: David Zucker SKU: 4248
Voice of the Dove is a verse-by-verse examination of the Book of Ruth through the eyes of the Dubner Maggid.
A legendary Torah scholar and master orator, the Maggid conveyed his deep insights through parables.
Now the Maggid's wisdom is accessible to the English-speaking public. His commentary centers on two themes: the special relationship between G-d and the Jewish People, and the best way the Jewish People can achieve spiritual growth and come close to G-d.
Voice of the Dove also contains commentary on Exodus Chapter 19, the Giving of the Torah, which is read on Shavuos, as is the Book of Ruth.
A history of the life and works of the Maggid is also included.
This year, learn the Book of Ruth in new depth with the Voice of the Dove.
