Cantor Avi Shaanani


Professional Cantorial background

A seventh generation Yerushalmi, graduate of Yeshivot in Israel, Cantor Shaanani received his basic musical training at the Rubin Academy of Music in Jerusalem.

He is a graduate of the Tel-Aviv Academy of Cantorial Art and has pursued his vocal and Chazzanut studies with Cantors Naftali Herstik of The Jerusalem Great Synagogue and Avraham Oberman.

Cantor Shaanani earned his reputation while serving as a guest Cantor in major Synagogues throughout Israel, Europe and the Americas.

In 1991, he was elected to serve as Chief Cantor to the Childwall community in Liverpool England.

In 1993, he was appointed to the post of First Cantor at the “Beth-Israel Beth-Aaron” Synagogue of Montreal, Canada.

In 1996, he was appointed to the position of Chief Cantor to the prestigious “Beth-Tikvah” Congregation of Montreal.

Today Cantor Shaanani resides in Jerusalem where he is a member of the staff of the Jerusalem School of Chazzanut in Heicahl Shlomo, as well as teaching Voice and Chazzanut.

He is often invited to serve as a guest Cantor in many Synagogues and participates in Cantorial Concerts.

Cantor Shaanani is the Editor and the Host of the highly regarded, well-known and weekly Chazzanut program of Kol-Israel Radio (Israel Broadcasting Authority).

Professional objective:

Cantor Shaanani is presently seeking an Orthodox Position in Israel or abroad for the High Holiday season, but will take to consideration a serious offer for a Full Time Position.
