THE INTERNATIONAL ARTS AND CRAFTS FAIR 2020
Location: Jerusalem
The annual outdoor International Jerusalem Arts and Crafts Fair, called Hutzot Hayotzer (sometimes spelled Khutsot HaYotser or Chutzot Hayotzer), is certainly one of Jerusalem's highlights of the summer if not the entire year. Hutzot Hayotzer can be translated as "the Creator Steps Out," which is precisely what happens; dozens of artists meet at this event, showcasing their creations, selling their crafts and allowing thousands to take in what Jerusalem and the world has to offer.

Hutzot Hayotzer is held at one of Jerusalem's most special venues, Sultan's Pool, which creates the perfect ambiance for this summer festival. Just at the foot of the Old City, this valley and its surrounding areas sit adjacent to the permanent artist colony, also named Hutzot Hayotzer.

Visitors stroll from stand to stand, taking in local and international artisans' work from watches to hammocks to paintings, often being sold by the original artists, and much more. From the depths of the Sultan's Pool, entrenched in the earth's Jerusalem stone, with the Old City lit up in the background and the stars above, the romantic, artistic and friendly environment envelops guests.

The festival, produced by Ariel Company, includes nightly live concerts and dance performances by popular Israeli artists, as well as many food stands and workshops scheduled throughout.

The fair is a great place to purchase art and functionally designed items. Or at the very least, it is inspiring to see all the creativity emerging from Israel and countries around the world.

FOLLOWING THE KINERET POETS, RACHEL AND NAOMI SHEMER - A SINGING TOUR
Location: Hmeyasdim, Kinerret
A Singing Tour is a regular tour, but the guidance is combined with tales, songs and guitar playing, and singing along.
Near the Sea of Galilee, two famous poets lived.
A hundred years ago, Rachel (Blushtein), the poet of the pioneers, studied agronomy in the agricultural school of Hana Maizel, in the Moshava Kinnerent. Rachel did not write songs back than, but later, when she lived in Tel Aviv, she wrote many songs in which she yearned to be back in Kinneret. Rachel was buried in the old Kineret cemetery.

Another famous poet, Naomi Shemer, was born in Kibbutz Kineret in 1930. Neomi Shemer was one of the most productive and influential poets of Israel, wring both lyrics and melodies for more than 50 years. She was also buried in the Kineret Cemetery.

In our tour, we will visit Hatzar Kinneret where Rachel studied, we will tell about the pioneers' history and Rachel's life, will sing some of her songs and continue to the Eucalyptus Scrub near Kibbutz Kinneret.

This scrub is mentioned in one of the most famous songs of Naomi Shemer. In the scrub, Naomi Shemer's life history will be presented combined with some songs.
From the Eucalyptus scrub we will walk through the old fish ponds to the Kinneret old cemetery and visit the poets' graves accompanying the visit with some more of their most beloved songs.

WARSAW FILM FESTIVAL 2020
Location: Warsaw
Warsaw Film Festival
The WFF differs from other festivals in its programme, just as Warsaw differs from other cities. Selecting the films, we always remember about our audience - native Varsovians, those working or studying in Warsaw, and those in town for a short while, for instance only for the Festival.

We do our best to make sure that our audiences get to know the latest and most interesting trends in world cinema as soon as possible. In this way, WFF audiences - usually as the first people in Poland - could discover American independent cinema as well as Asian, Latin American, Iranian, Russian and Romanian cinema. Time has always been a major consideration: capturing the moment of the greatest success, the peak. Our aim is to show a film before it wins an Oscar, to introduce a director to Warsaw audiences before he or she wins an award at the Cannes festival. We don't chase filmmakers who are already famous. Some of the most amazing directors, like Michael Haneke, Cristian Mungiu, Pawel Pawlikowski, Ari Folman, Ashgar Farhadi, Lenny Abrahamson and hundreds of others, had usually been guests of the WFF before they reached the top.

Temple Israel is pleased to announce its own new Jewish radio station: WJEW, managed by its high school students and Cantor Michael Smolash. Accessible at www.temple-israel.org, the station can be listened to by Jews around the world. What’s even more exciting is that teens anywhere in the world can also send in their own radio shows of up to 30 minutes length for broadcast.

“The whole idea [for the station] began when I was talking to a student at Monday Night School—Corey Berkowitz,” Cantor Smolash said. “He mentioned that he had plans to go into radio or music production. I mentioned that I had been wondering why there were so many high-caliber Christian radio stations, but no Jewish ones. He then suggested we create one.”

“He was so excited, it was impossible to say ‘no,’ even if I had wanted to,” Smolash said. “He outlined exactly how we could do it, using an internet broadcaster. Little did I know what a talented young man I was collaborating with. Shortly after the station was up, Corey placed first in the nation at the National High School Radio Awards. He ranked highest out of a field of over 10 000 student DJs who applied and is considered the number one high school DJ in Michigan. Luckily, we still have a year before he graduates. Universities are already fighting over him.”

“I’m looking forward to helping WJEW become one of the top Jewish radio stations in the country,” Berkowitz said. “I’ve grown up with radio all around me and have dedicated a great amount of time to my high school radio station.”

With support from the Temple community and Temple Israel’s “The Next Big Thing” Fund, equipment was purchased and plans for the station began. About 15 students enrolled in a “Radio Production” class offered through the Tyner Religious School’s Monday night program. Together with Cantor Smolash, the students have been planning possible shows, researching music and conducting interviews.

“We have already interviewed some big names, including Rabbi Shmuley Boteach and comedian Joel Chasnoff, which we will be airing,” Smolash said. “The students are also able to come in and run their own shows: DJing, talking about Jewish teen topics, and more.”

The community’s response to the station has been extremely positive.

“We started getting a lot of attention even before we had officially launched the station. A director of the Board of Jewish Education of Greater New York emailed us the first week we broadcasted to congratulate us and ask about WJEW,” Smolash said. “He said we were the first religious school he knew of to create a radio station like this. Some other synagogues have run weekly shows on local stations or broadcast services via a local station. But, none have done this. After broadcasting for only a month, we now have listeners in over 20 countries and 25 states Portugal and Norway seem to really love us!”

To learn more about WJEW, please contact Cantor Michael Smolash at Temple Israel: 248-661-5700 or Msmolash@temple-israel.org. Photos are available upon request.
