Gila Almagor wins Israel Prize

Gila Alamagor, Grande Dame of stage and screen was the recipient of the 2004 prestigious Israel Prize for her contribution to Israeli film.


Limor Livnat, Minister of Culture, Sport and Education stated, in announcing the award that ‘Gila Almagor is a symbol of Israeli culture. Her years of work in film have enriched the Israeli arts scene, and she has made a huge contribution to the local film field .'


Gila, born in Petach Tikva, was on the Habimah stage before her seventeenth birthday.

Following a two year period of studying ballet, acting and music in New York in her early twenties, Gila has dedicated her life to the screen, stage and television in Israel, winning numerous awards and performed all the major female roles of the theatrical canon.
