The Yiddish Radio Project is a series of 11, 10 to 15 minute segments documenting the Golden Age of Yiddish Radio. The programs were first aired on the US National Public Radio program "All Things Considered". The programs are all narrated in English and is hosted by NPR's Scott Simon and features the voices of Carl Reiner, Eli Wallach, Jerry Stiller and more. The series documents the golden age of Yiddish Radio from the 1930's to the 1950's in the United States. The segments will be aired during the Yiddish half hour on 3ZZZ each fortnight as follows; Episode 1 : The Yiddish Radio Dial. Did you know that over 100 radio stations broadcast Yiddish during the Golden Age? Episode 2 : Rabbi Rubins Court of the Air. A sort of Beth Din of the air waves. Episode 3 : Commercials on Yiddish Radio. Imagine Campbells Soup ads in Yiddish. Episode 4 : Yiddish Melodies in Swing. Did you know that the origin of Swing was Yiddish. Episode 5 : Reunion with Siegbert Freiberg. On air reunions of holocaust survivors. Episode 6 : The Dramas of Nahum Stutchkoff. Yiddish radio soapies. Episode 7 : Round the Family Table. An example of Stutchkoffs radio dramas Episode 8 : Levine and his flying Machine. And you thought Lindberg was first. Episode 9 : The Jewish Philosopher. Before there was Oprah there was the Jewish Philosopher. Episode 10: Victor Packer the One Man Radio Empire. Imagine going on air every day with 20 15 minute segments in Yiddish all of which had to be different. Episode 11: Seymour Rechtzeit, The Yiddish Crooner. The Yiddish Radio Project was a winner of the 2002 Peabody Award for broadcasting in the United States. Entertainment Weekly described the series as "Matzo ball soup for the Soul". The Philadelphia Inquirer reported "Remarkable... like recovering a few blocks from the pyramids."
