Singular Sensation at the Sydney Opera House
Israeli choreographer Yasmeen Godder takes on the modern “look at me” generation in her perceptive full-length work Singular Sensation.

Through her five dancers, she explores the question of who we are and how we can manage to find excitement, a genuine thrill or a connection to sensation in this hyper-informed world. This is an Australian premiere.

Yasmeen Godder was born and raised in Jerusalem, and moved to New York with her family when she was 11. She graduated from the High School of the Performing Arts in New York City and studied further at the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. She returned to Israel in 1999 and now lives in Tel Aviv.

In any given year, it makes use of most of the main theatres across the city including Sydney Theatre, CarriageWorks, City Recital Hall and venues at the Sydney Opera House,

Sydney Festival also presents a number of quality, free outdoor events such as the long-running Festival in the Domain with Jazz and Symphony concerts, each attracting up to 100 000 people. In 2008 the Festival introduced a new opening event, Festival First Night, for which people are invited to take to the streets to enjoy a large-scale celebration of music and performance. In its inaugural year, Festival First Night attracted 200 000 people into the heart of the city.

The Festival has a history of presenting Australian premieres and many of Australia's most memorable productions such as Cloudstreet have resulted from Sydney Festival's commitment to nurture local artists. It has brought many of the world's great artists to Sydney for the first time including: Ariane Mnouchkine and Thèâtre du Soleil (Flood Drummers), Robert Wilson (The Black Rider), Robert Lepage (Far Side of the Moon and The Andersen Project), George Piper Dances, Netherlands Dance Theatre, James Thiérrée, Philip Glass, Ian McKellen (Dance of Death), the Batsheva Dance Company and the National Theatre of Scotland (Black Watch and Aalst).

This 7th annual workshop focuses on exploring the impact Israeli folk dance can have on Jewish education.

It provides a unique opportunity for Israeli dance teachers and Jewish educators to explore methods and materials for integrating Israeli folk dance into specific areas of study.

In each yearly workshop, we include a proven curriculum and methodology for teaching dance to youth from preschool through high school age, provide a forum for teachers to share their experiences and expertise, explore a repertoire of Israeli folk dances appropriate for different age and skill levels including those for holiday celebration and to reflect the diverse cultural traditions which make up the Jewish people.

We also cover in-class teaching, synagogue programming, costuming for all ages and budgets, hands on teaching with the children of the Albany Israeli dance community and much, much more!

Friday night includes a "dancing Oneg" with the Albany community, a "lunch & learn" following Shabbat services and an adult Israeli dance party on Sunday.

We provide home hospitality in close proximity to Temple Israel and all food provided is kosher.
